Roscea

What is this red stuff on my face?

Rosacea is an inflammatory disorder of the skin that is characterized by a red complexion with papules and pustules caused by dilation of capillaries. Mostly found in the nose and cheek area but can occur anywhere on the face. This is also know as "acne rosacea" and "papulopustular rosacea".

There has not been any definite findings to the cause of rosacea. There are common factors doctors believe play a role in the development of rosacea but no exact cause is known. Vascular dysfunction, hormones (of course), bacteria and genetics have all been linked to the formation of Rosacea.

Treatment of this disorder is very hard because there is no defined cause. We know that any kind of aggressive exfoliation of the skin is a big mistake. Irritating the skin makes this condition much worse. A gentle approach is absolutely necessary. Going to an experienced skin care professional can make a huge difference in the appearance of the skin.

Products for home use should be gentle with anti-bacterial properties. Ingredients such as azelaic acid, lactic acid, kojic acid and tea tree are very effective.
